Performer

JOAN

Performed the role of Joan in concert at The Green Room 42, October 2025. Development will continue in 2026.

Book, Music and Lyrics by Al Carmines, Directed by Patrick Loughstein, Music Directed by Nathan Beary-Loughstein

Originally staged in 1971 and set in then-contemporary Greenwich Village, JOAN loosely reimagines the final days of Joan of Arc through the lens of radical politics and self-discovery. The musical hadn’t been seen since 1975 and never existed in sheet music form - until Patrick Loughstein and Nathan Beary-Loughstein tracked down the script, consulted with original cast members, and fully transcribed the score by ear from a rare cast recording.

Lottie and the Deep Blue Sea is a new folk-rock musical about finding a little Queer utopia in a hostile world. Drinking, dancing, treasure-hunting, and historically accurate gay pirate marriages converge in this piece brimming with love, life, and fear of the oncoming storm.

Performed at WP Theatre (2022), Under the Radar (2019), A.C.T. (2019), and Z Space (2018)

From 2016-2022 I performed as the co-lead in The Kilbane's Drama Desk/Lucille Lortel-nominated musical Weightless, including productions at WP Theatre (dir. Tamilla Woodard), Under the Radar, A.C.T., and Z Space in San Francisco (dir. Becca Wolf), and a film version of the show produced by WP. I am also on the original cast recording.

A theatrical concept album inspired by a tale from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Weightless weaves ancient myth with indie rock, blurring the lines between actors and musicians, as well as between musical theater and a rock concert.

The Lake Lucille Chekhov Project is an annual week-long retreat for actors, designers, and makers of all kinds which culminates in a sweeping, one-time only, day-long exploration of a Chekhov play in a 200-year-old farmhouse in upstate New York. The project is created and directed by Brian Mertes (Head of MFA Directing Program at Brown University/Trinity Rep and Associate Director at Trinity) and produced by director/producer Melissa Kievman and actress/producer Wendy Vanden Heuvel.

Lake Lucille is where I wrote my first song, wore my first suit, and learned to make magic from Annie Baker, Dede O’Connell, Gayle Rankin, Gabriel Ebert, Jennifer Ikeda, Deb O, Dan Butler, Shayok Misha Chowdhury, and countless others.

In The Seagull (2011-2013), I performed as a musician and “Baby Soren.” For Cherry Orchard (2015-2019) I co-wrote a 52-song cycle with Philip Roebuck that was performed at Under the Radar in 2019 and 2020. The following two years I collaborated on workshops of Three Sisters, and in 2023 and 2024 my piece SEE/UNSEE was developed in retreat there.

Bread & Puppet Theater

From 2002-2010 I was a company member with Bread & Puppet Theater of Vermont, primarily performing in their Winter Shows at Theater for the New City in NYC. Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann on New York City’s Lower East Side, Bread and Puppet is one of the oldest, nonprofit, political theatre companies in the country. The traveling puppet shows range from tightly composed theater pieces presented by members of the company, to extensive outdoor pageants which require the participation of many volunteers.

Workshops

I’ve been honored to collaborate as a performer and musician on projects by The Bengsons (Berkeley Rep Ground Floor, The Broken Ear Trilogy and OHIO), Tegan & Sara (ACT New Strands Festival, Untitled Teagan and Sara Musical), Sarah Gancher (Eugene Onegin), and Jessica Kahkoska & Mark Meadows (Wildfire), among others.
